Recommended Restaurants
Here is a selection of some of our recommended restaurants from around the world. There isn't much of a theme to them except that they are all good value for money (and none of them makes you wear a tie).
Indian
French
Italian
- Boscaiolo (London)
- In Sydney you can just wander round the Leichhardt district and find wonderful,
cheap (by British standards) Italian restaurants every few yards. Or at least you
could about ten years ago. Actually Sydney is a good place to find all sorts of
restaurants (except that I never found a decent Indian one - try Bradford instead).
Local
Restaurants in the Cambridge area.
- Eraina Taverna (Cambridge)
- Midsummer House (Cambridge)
- I think we don't recommend the Good Pub Not Mondays any more as it
is reputed (from several sources) to have got too expensive since
being listed by Egon Ronay. But it's in quite a distinctive position
and is still a useful landmark when flying over the fens. (Let us know
when your prices come back down to about GPB 7 a head and we'll put you
back on our list.)
Alaska
- Don't bother. Give up eating until you get home. But this is not a reason not to visit Alaska,
as there are plenty of other things to do and see - the Lonely Planet book is recommended
(as usual). Actually, the salmon bake at the Taku Glacier Lodge is OK, but it's basically
worth doing for the floatplane ride from Juneau over the ice cap rather than just for the food
(phone +1 907 586 1362).
